2010 overview
The DK is one of the sponsors and is represented by a poster at this annual PhD symposium organized by the YSA of the MUW. Location of the poster stands will be at level 7 of the Auditorium Center at the General Hospital. For details see the program and the Abstractbook.
All DK students are invited to join.
PyMOL is a Python-enhanced molecular graphics tool. It excels at 3D visualization of proteins, small molecules, density, surfaces, and trajectories. It also includes molecular editing, ray tracing, and movies. Open Source PyMOL is free to everyone: www.pymol.org Georg Mlynek (Djinovic) offered to give a general introduction to get started with the program. If you would like to attend, please contact Georg: georg.mlynek@univie.ac.at This is necessary because if only few students from the DK will visit, we open the workshop also for other VBC students.
Burghard Scheibe von GE-Healthcare will give an theoretical and practical introduction to the Äkta-FPLC Systems. The theoretical part will be based on the needs of the people attending and the problems they encounter. Please send me your specific needs, your questions and/or specific problems to be troubleshooted before April, 30th . The practical part for the DK students on Thursday is already full. Please contact Georg Mlynek, if you want to participate on Wednesday afternoon.
Dr. Markus Rheindorf who gives these seminars at the University of Vienna will come to the VBC to give you an introduction on exposé writing. If you would like Dr. Rheindorf to read your draft in advance, please email your document to Ulrike by 10. March 2010. The handouts will be send to you. We strongly recommend all DK-students in the New Curriculum of the University and those at the MUW to attend this workshop. There will not be another one next term. If you would like to register, please send an email to Ulrike as soon as possible.
At the meeting with your representatives, it turned out that some of you wanted an introduction on how to access journals and info about the disk-drives at the MFPL. Tim will give an introduction to the new colleagues at the 3rd floor on Thursday, 18th February, at 14.00. New DK students from the University are invited to join.
On the 201st birthday of Charles Darwin, we have organized a visit to the special exhibition “Darwins rEvolution” in the Naturhistorischen Museum. At 14.00 the guided tour through the exhibition will start. All of the DK students and faculty are invited. The tour will be paid by the DK.
